For my tenth birthday, I had asked my parents to get me a poster of my cat. I don’t remember any detail of this birthday, if it is not that I wanted more than anything a great photo to hang on the wall of my room.
All children love their pets, but some develop a relationship particularly strong with them. We welcomed our cat Felix when I was seven years old, and him, seven weeks. Single girl, so I grew up with him. I remember our discussions “monitoring” in the house after having suffered an attempted burglary. His corner nap favorite : under the radiator in my room.
When I was of age to take a small job at the cinema on the corner, which caused me to return late in the evening, Felix was waiting for me on the front porch. And when I went to the university, he is waiting for me always, even if I only came home most every night.
I still have that birthday photo. My parents left England ten years ago and even though we have cleared a lot of things, I did not want to throw the photo. It is now resting on a shelf in my apartment, always glued on the cardboard on which I had received.
To show his personality in a Photo Book
This tenth anniversary, it was more than thirty years. I now have another cat, Scribbles, and my smartphone is full of pictures of him. Last year, I created a Photo Book of Happy Moments to capture its funniest moments.
The left photo is my favorite photo of Scribbles. He was wounded in the hind leg a week before and had managed to remove the bandage in less than ten minutes. The veterinarian has, therefore, released his magnificent ruff plastic. His gaze says volumes about what he thinks of the situation !
When I think about it, if the Photo Book Happy Times had existed in the late 80’s, he would have made a much better anniversary gift than my post. Even today, I am very careful not to damage the photo of Felix. In contrast, the Photo Book of Doodling on pages and solid and a protective case. I can now carry it in my purse (though if it happened to me) and at the time when I was a child, there is a very safe bet that I would have made to the school.
What the Photo Book was better, is that it shows much more diversity than the photo of my room. This photo of Felix makes him look a bit dopey, but in reality it was a real cat. He was a good boy when Dad put it in her and pull out his little head through the neck hole. These are not the perfect moments that I prefer with my cats, rather, they are the moments where their personality is expressed. Through my little book, I can show these moments to my friends when they visit me, and that Scribbling is hidden under the bed, or if he is gone take a tour.
If you know of a child who insists on sleeping with his pet, who goes with him in his cart, which stings in sweet treats on the dinner table to give him, or who refuses to move if the animal sleeps on its knees… You know what you have to do. And if you like the idea of a poster, so much the better : we can print also.
